Cottage in the City - Toronto Bed and Breakfast

Your Toronto Bed and Breakfast Hosts - Ron and Mardelle Kish

Toronto bed and breakfast hosts Ron and Mardelle Kish

Ron is a retired journalist with 30 years of media experience, the bulk of it in network television news. He assigned reporters stationed around the world for the Canadian Television Network for over twenty years. His tenure at CTV also enabled him to cover everything from earthquakes in Mexico to royal tours in the Maritimes and British Columbia.

Mardelle's work focused on the restoration and preservation of historical buildings, two turn-of-the century mansions and a local railway station... as well as fund raising for private schools and universities.

Ron and Mardelle met over 30 years ago, when both worked for daily newspapers in Ohio.

Mardelle was the social editor while Ron worked as the county editor and they became best friends. When they could manage it, each went with the other on their assignment. Over a summer they managed to cover the local appearance of The Beatles and to take in summer stock with actors such as Jessica Tandy, Hume Cronyn and Dustin Hoffman. Eventually Ron went off to graduate school and Mardy went back to Univcrsity.

It would be 30 years before they would see each other again.

And when they did, they got married and decided they wanted to do something together to make up for the lost years - so they started the Cottage in the City. Both have a love for old buildings and together they researched the origins of the cottage and its neighbourhood, then they set about keeping some of the old and adding some of the new as they restored the Cottage. An extension of their love for antiques is apparent in their latest project the restoration of a century old Ottawa Valley log homestead.

As your gracious hosts both want to make your stay in Toronto the best possible experience.
